1999 SVT Contour
Silver Frost / Midnight Blue interior
164,5xx miles
Starts/runs/sounds/drives/stops perfectly. Stock 2.5 V6 SVT engine is smooth all the way through the RPM range, is nice and tight and has good power. Interior looks very good except for normal carpet discoloration around the footwells, the leather is in great shape without any rips or tears. The transmission and clutch feel good and shifts smoothly through all gears and reverse. The front tires will be done after this summer, the rears are brand new Sumic's purchased at NORMS TIRE ( :woot: ) in February, less than 2,000 miles on 'em.
Bumpers are in good shape. Mesh is in place and not broken. It looks like on the passenger side of the rear bumper there was a scrape that somebody tried to touch up with cheap paint, you can see it in some of the pics. It's really not that noticeable.
I have SVT floormats that come with the car, they're pretty dirty but not horribly worn.
B&M short throw shifter installed by previous owner.
Areas of concern...the front end occasionally makes some clunky, squeeky noises. I got under the car the other day and I can't see anything that looks bad, but I'm no expert mechanic. To drive the car you would never know by feel that there is anything making noise, the steering feels nice and tight and doesn't wander going down the road nor have the tires worn funny.
Driver side window needs "guidance" going up. The motor works fine it just needs help staying in the track.
Stock 99 CSVT wheels are decently stained from years of brake dust, midwest winters, etc.
Leaks some oil around the oil pan gasket. Not super heavy but a few drops overnight I suppose.
The alignment is good but the steering wheel is cocked to the right a bit. Not bad, maybe 5 or 10 degrees. Not annoying enough for me to have fixed by now.
I've replaced the rear swaybar bushings, but the end links sometimes make a little bit of noise when going over driveway curbs, other than that, totally quiet.
There is a cat heat shield or something that buzzes on the exhaust occasionally. It's only around 900 and 1800 rpm's, otherwise it's quiet. It's not that loud at all, just wanted to mention it.
The car is nice and shiny, but it does have 164k miles and has a fair amount of rock chips on the hood which I would consider to be normal wear. There are a couple little door dings here and there and one small dent above the passenger side door handle, not huge, apparently from a full beer can being thrown at the car whilst the previous owner had it.
Rust on the inside bottom of all four doors. I'm the third owner and the Contour has been a daily driver since new, both in Chicago and in the Twin Cities. Also a half-dollar size bubble above the windshield on the driver side (see pic.)
Headlights, I polish like once a month and they clear up nice, but get cloudy again after a few weeks. They work just fine, it's only cosmetic.
Barely noticeable, small amount of infamous Contour dash-warp above the instrument cluster. It's very minor. This car had the "dash warp kit" installed years ago on the front of the dash above the defrost, so that will not be a concern for future owner.
Antenna is broken off. FM radio reception seems to be fine, AM reception sucks. Also, the car has an Eclipse cd player in it that I'm sure was top of the line..........in 2001. It works great though.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head, call/email me for more info. I have a huge book of basic maintenance that has occured on this car since new that will go with it. The car overall feels very solid and tight, expecially for the miles.
Reason for selling already: my grandpa is (finally) getting rid of his pickup and I absolutely cannot pass it up, and I do not have room for two vehicles. If it wasn't for grandpa selling me his truck, I have literally no reason or desire to sell this car. But, because of this it has to go.
